Overview

The Department of Plant Pathology was established in 2012 as part of the Faculty of Agriculture at University of Sargodha, Sargodha. It offers teaching and research in the field of Plant Pathology and serves students, scholars, and professionals interested in this vital domain of agricultural science. Our vision is to develop and foster innovative research and teaching programs keeping in view the changing needs of the society and the environment. Our mission is to deliver rigorous, practical-oriented education, produce meaningful research, and produce graduates who are skilled and ethical, and finally prepared them for the demands of agribusiness, global research, and environmental stewardship. The department offers three programs: B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture with major Plant Pathology, M.Sc. (Hons.) Plant Pathology, and PhD in Plant Pathology. The curriculum combines strong theoretical foundations with practical training in Mycology, Bacteriology, Virology, Nematology, Citrus Pathology, Molecular Plant Pathology, and Plant Disease Epidemiology, and it is reviewed regularly in line with the standards of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Punjab Higher Education Commission, particularly with the specific needs of the industry. Admission requirements for each program are available at https://su.edu.pk/. Teaching is delivered by seven PhD faculty members, who are active researchers and experienced plant pathologists. Students learn in laboratories equipped with advanced hi-tech equipment, and have access to vast library resources and digital databases. The department continues to strengthen student learning through HEC-revised curricula, supervised laboratory and field experiments, research projects, and internship opportunities. Emphasis is placed on practical problem-solving, scientific communication, and the application of plant pathology knowledge to crop protection and plant health challenges. The department aims to further enhance student training in line with emerging scientific developments and the needs of Pakistan's agricultural sector. Graduates are prepared for professional careers in agricultural research, higher education, plant disease diagnostics, extension services, and the private agricultural sector. Through coursework, practical training, and supervised research, they develop skills in diagnosing plant diseases, conducting experiments, interpreting scientific findings, and communicating disease-management recommendations. This training provides a foundation for professional growth and for addressing plant health challenges in Pakistan.
