VC UoS briefs Punjab governor on academic, global outreach

Vice Chancellor of University of Sargodha, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, called on Punjab Governor/Chancellor Sardar Saleem Haider and briefed him on the university’s academic progress, research output and development agenda.

The vice chancellor said the university currently caters to over 25,000 students, with a similar number enrolled in its affiliated colleges. He highlighted efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship through the institution’s incubation centre, which supports student-led business initiatives.

Sharing details of international engagement, Prof. Abbas noted expanding academic collaboration with China, including plans to establish a joint campus in Henan province — a first for any public sector university in Pakistan. He said agreements had also been signed for joint research and technology centers, degree programs and training initiatives in fields such as technology, maritime education and digital innovation.

The Vice Chancellor further informed the governor about a proposed international hospital project in Sanya, China, terming it a step towards strengthening the university’s global presence. Referring to student outcomes, he said a recent job fair resulted in over 500 final-year students securing employment and internships with leading organizations.

The governor underscored the importance of quality education and research in enhancing Pakistan’s global academic standing and assured full support for initiatives contributing to regional and national development. He appreciated the university’s growing international linkages and efforts to align students with contemporary demands, terming such institutions vital for projecting a positive image of the country.
