Chinese Spring Festival Celebrations at University of Sargodha

To celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival, the Confucius Institute and the Pakistan Institute of China Studies at University of Sargodha organized a cultural event on 22nd February, 2024. The event was organized to help Pakistani students to know more about Chinese New Year and Chinese traditional holidays. 
Several activities were included to celebrate the festival such as a brief talk on the history of the Chinese Spring Festival, learning and writing the Chinese couplets, learning some blessing expressions and etiquettes for the Chinese Spring Festival, and watching a short video. A meet up of Chinese university alumni working at University of Sargodha was also arranged on this special day. 
From Pakistani side, Dr. Muhammad Irfan, the director PICS and the Chinese university alumni including Dr. Jabbar ul Haq, Dr. Kamran Bashir, Dr. Mudassar Hussain Shah, Dr. Farhat Nosheen, Dr. Asma Safdar, Dr. Naseer Abbas Khan, Dr. Muhammad Kashif and Dr. Muhammad Yaseen attended the event. 
From Chinese side, Dr. Jane Chen, the director Confucius Institute at UoS and Dr. Zhao Yang, the director external linkages at Henan Normal University joined for celebrating the event. 
On this auspicious occasion, the Vice Chancellor university of Sargodha, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, who himself is a Chinese university alumnus, shared his heartiest good wishes for the people of China and hoped that this Year of Dragon will open new horizons for the people of two nations. 
“The Spring Festival stands as a testament to the deep-rooted values of family, unity, and hope that transcend across the borders. At the University of Sargodha, we cherish the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and hope that the blessing of dragon will fortify our unwavering relationship, which is higher than mountains and deeper than oceans. May the festive spirit of the Spring Festival bring us closer together and inspire us to pursue excellence in all our endeavors.”. 
In his opening remarks, Dr. Muhammad Irfan described the nature of brotherly relationship between China and Pakistan and shared greetings for Chinese Spring Festival with Chinese counterpart. “May the Year of the Dragon be a source of inspiration and fulfillment, guiding us towards a bright future” said Dr. Muhammad Irfan.
Dr. Jane Chen delivered a brief lecture on Chinese Spring Festival, sharing information about its history, etiquettes and customs. She also shared a video with the student, describing the customs and traditions of Chinese Spring festival. Students of University of Sargodha also practiced writing Chinese couplets as part of event activity.
Such event helps to develop more understanding of Chinese culture and brings people close to each other.  May the year of the dragon bring good fortune, good health, and lots of new opportunities to all our Chinese friends and fans around the world!
