Overview

The Department of Entomology at the University of Sargodha was established in 2007 within the College of Agriculture, University of Sargodha. Its founding purpose was to deliver high-quality education and conduct research in insect science, with particular attention to the agricultural and environmental needs of the region.The Department currently offers the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture with major in Entomology, M.Sc. (Hons.) in Entomology, the Ph.D. in Entomology, and the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Entomology and Disease Vector Control. Instruction covers insect biology and ecology, molecular entomology, urban entomology, biopesticides, insect–plant interactions, applied insect ecology, and citrus entomology. Laboratory work and field-based training form integral components of the academic programmes. Research activities focus on insect–plant interactions, applied insect ecology, citrus entomology, insect stress biology, biological control (including entomopathogenic fungi), insect microbial ecology, biopesticides and toxicology, integrated pest management, biodiversity and systematics of insects and mites, molecular entomology, urban entomology, and medical entomology with disease vector control. Studies also address pesticide residues and sustainable pest-management practices. Faculty and students have collectively published more than 500 research papers in national and international journals.The Department maintains functional laboratories equipped with modern instruments. It comprises four full-time regular faculty members. Collaborative arrangements with national and international institutions support ongoing research and academic exchange. Since its establishment, the Department has graduated more than 500 students, including over 150 M.Sc. (Hons.) graduates and more than 30 Ph.D. scholars.
